BENNETTSVILLE A graveside service for Mrs. Joyce McQuage Huckabee, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hebron Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hebron Cemetery Association, c/o Patricia Stuart, PO Box 815, Clio, SC 29525. Whitner-Evans Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Huckabee died Tuesday. Born in Charlotte, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Henry, Sr. and Eida Joyce McQuage. She attended ECTC and Flora MacDonald College. She was a former clerk with the Federal Draft Board and had retired as a clerk to Marlboro County Council. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a past chairman of Marlboro County United Way. She was a member and past president of the Bennettsville Pilot Club. She was married to the late Charles T. Huckabee.

Surviving are a brother, D.H. McQuage (Carolyn) of Clio; a nephew, Henry McQuage (Lisa); nieces, Deborah McLaurin (John), Martha Sports and Allyson Hathaway (Doug); great-nieces and nephews.

Thomas Madison Edwards

Thomas Madison Edwards entered The Church Triumphant on Saturday, May 10, 2008.  He was born on December 31, 1984 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Madison was the son of Van and Lynda Edwards.

He was a May 10, 2006 graduate of Bennettsville Middle School, TMH Class.

Madison was a beloved member of First United Methodist Church, Bennettsville.

He is survived by his parents of Bennettsville; a brother, Trey Edwards of Bennettsville; his paternal grandparents, Mack and Anna Margaret Hartis of Bennettsville; his maternal grandparents, Ruth Blue of Bennettsville and Dudley Blue of Bennettsville; and his maternal great-grandmother, Annie Lou Wallace of Florence.

Ralph Leonard Kelly

BENNETTSVILLE — Services for Mr. Ralph Leonard Kelly, 82, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from the graveside in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation is at the home, 608 Lakeshore Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests any desired memorials be directed to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 456, Bennettsville, S.C. 29512 or a charity of one’s choice. Whitner-Evans Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. Kelly died Tuesday, July 15, 2008. Born August 8, 1925, in Pickens, S.C., he was a son of the lat Lewis and Pearl Winchester Kelly. He attended Parker High School in Greenville, S.C., and following graduation, volunteered for service in the U.S. Navy and served three years. After his tour of duty, he received a degree from Furman University followed by a law degree from the University of Virginia. He lived and practiced law for many years in Bennettsville.

Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Emily Finklea Kelly, of Bennettsville; step-daughters, Phyllis Odom Eschenmann (Curt), of Blacksburg, Va., Diane Odom Szymczyk (Roger) of Charlotte, and Sharon Odom Infinger (Marvin) of Charleston; brothers, Hal Kelly, of Live Oak, Fla., and Clyde Kelly, of Elizabeth City, N.C., and 6 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Edna Coxe.

Inez Gambrell Evatt

ORANGEBURG — Inez Gambrell Evatt, 87, of 118 Pineloop Circle, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at her residence.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008 at Nancy Freeman Stringer Chapel with Rev. Kermitt Shrawder and Rev. Arthur Holt officiating.

Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday August 23, 2008, at Pendleton United Methodist Church, Pendleton, S.C.

Mrs. Evatt was born in Anderson County a daughter of the late James Edward Gambrell and Burtie Outzs Gambrell. She was a member of Pendleton United Methodist Church. Mrs. Evatt was a devoted wife and mother. She actively supported her husband's ministry in many churches of the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by a son, Tommy Evatt; six brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors are her husband of 67 years, Rev. Thomas Foster Evatt of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Wade R. (Elaine E.) Crow of Bennettsville, Mrs. Henry (Donna E.) Price of Clemson, and Mrs. Charles (Cynthia E.) Goldman of Columbia; four grandchildren, Cindi C. McInnis (Duncan) of Longs, S.C., Robyn Whatley (David) of Mt. Pleasant, Jay Hamilton (Summer) of Tampa, Fla., and Anna Hamilton of Sullivan's Island; and two great-grandchildren, Jean Kaye and Allen McInnis of Longs.

Family will receive friends following the service.

Robert E. Hathaway

BENNETTSVILLE A memorial service for Mr. Robert E. Hathaway, 82, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday at Whitner-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 181 East Evans Street, Suite C-2, Florence SC 29506.

Mr. Hathaway died Tuesday, September 23, 2008. Born September 24, 1925, in Idaville, IN, he was a son of the late Earl and Hazel McClellan Hathaway. He had retired as a plant manager from United Technologies and was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Board of Trustees. He was married to the late Mildred Dock Hathaway who passed away July 16, 2004.l

Surviving are sons, Doug E. Hathaway (Allyson) of Irmo, and Brian T. Hathaway of Bennettsville; brothers, George Hathaway (Georgia) of Jamestown, KY, Marion Hathaway (Janet) of Camden, IN, Donald Hathaway of Hemmett, CA, Orville Hathaway (Fran) of Delphi, IN, Tom Hathaway (Jane) of Indianapolis, and Wayne Hathaway of Kokomo, IN; sisters, Nellie Peters of Camden, IN, Lucille Geisler of Burnettsville, IN, Jessie Allen of Franklin, IN, Edna Capper of Monticello, IN and a grandchild, Daniel E. Hathaway of The Citadel in Charleston.

Marion O’Neal Carmichael

Marion O’Neal Carmichael, of Bennettsville, entered The Church Triumphant on Thursday, December 11, 2008, after a long illness. He was born in Dillon on November 5, 1935 to Zynetta Gressette Carmichael and Hubert Lee Carmichael.

Marion graduated from Dillon High School and retired from Southern Bell after 33 years of service. He attended and was a committed and involved church member at First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Pledger Hodges Sunday School Class, a Sunday School teacher, member of the Administrative Council, a Trustee and on the Building Committee. He enjoyed supporting and serving the Salkehatchie Ministry every summer with his wife and grandchildren. He was known affectionately as the best "janitor" for his duties of cleaning after the meals were served for the Salkehatchie workers. He was also an active member for many years of the Lions Club, Telephone Pioneers, and served as the Little League Baseball Commissioner for seven years.

Marion was a loving man who always had a helping hand for his fellow man and a faithful friend to many. He gave generously and with his heart and never met a stranger. He was known for his humor and love of life. Marion also dearly loved playing golf and watching football (especially his Clemson Tigers). He was a very devoted family man, having married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, sharing 51 years together.

Marion is survived by his wife, Patsy Bethea Carmichael; his children, Mary Carmichael Jones, Marion O'Neal Carmichael, II, Martha (Denise) Carmichael (David) Hodge, and Lee Rankin (Margret) Carmichael; grandchildren: Candice Ann Carmichael, William Cordie Jones, Dylan Lee Carmichael, Gressette Elizabeth Carmichael and David Caden Hodge; a sister, Sara Carmichael (Alva) Hopkins and a brother, Stuart Francis Carmichael.

Gary William Anderson

BENNETTSVILLE — Services for Mr. Gary William Anderson, 56, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation is at the home, 307 Williams Drive. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 181 East Evans Street, Suite C-2, Florence, SC 29506. Whitner-Evans Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. Anderson died Tuesday. Born in Marlboro County, he was a son of the late Jack Alexander and Marilyn Leviner Anderson. He was employed with Southern Packaging and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Susie Huey Anderson of Bennettsville; a son, William Scott Anderson of Tega Cay; a daughter, Robyn Anderson of McColl; a brother, Keith Anderson of Cheraw; and grandchildren, Cutler Anderson, Ashlyn Taylor, Maebry Anderson and Christen Taylor.
