Lake Junaluska Photo Gallery

Lake Junaluska is the conference and retreat center of the Southeastern Jurisdiction of The United Methodist Church.

It is a place where thousands of Christians have gathered to experience the wonder of Christ's presence in the beautiful

setting of the North Carolina Smoky Mountains. Click here to go to the Lake Junaluska website. These pictures below were

taken recently by Jim Hepler at Music Week 2007.

This is an entrance sign

to the assembly campus.

The new welcome center

was being constructed this Summer. It will be named for our former SC Bishop, Rev. Joseph Bethea, and his wife.

This is one of the most recognized sites

at Lake Junaluaka. Atop the hill, the Cross is lit at night.

This view of the lake

is taken from the Cross site.

Campus buildings

can be seen from where the Cross stands.

The Terrace Hotel and Stuart Auditorium

are seen from atop the hill.

Lambuth Inn was built in 1921

and is on the National Register of Historic Sites. It is "on the hill" near the Cross.

Stuart Auditorium

was built in 1913, and thousands upon thousands of Christians have worshipped here. This is the "center" of the campus.

Memorial Chapel

is a smaller place of worship, and is to the left of Stuart Auditorium. Both buildings are on the Lake.

This arch is an entrance

to Memorial Chapel. The lake is seen in the background.

The interior of Memorial Chapel

is a very worshipful setting.

These windows portray Methodist history

with Charles Wesley, John Wesley and Francis Asbury (l to r). They are on the rear wall of the Chapel (facing the lake).

The musical lyre

is used to portray Charles Wesley's influence on Methodist hymnody.

This famous quote by John Wesley

is featured beneath his portrait on the window.

The circuit rider portrays Francis Asbury.

He came to Marlboro County and established the first Methodist meeting house in S.C.

This is the plaque

beneat the windows in Memorial Chapel.

The flame of the Holy Spirit

has always been an imporant concept in Methodism, reminicient of the Day of Pentecost, and the renewal experienced by early Methodists.

The Book of Memory

lists memorials given to build Memorial Chapel. Around 170 First UMC families contributed.

The middle and right columns

contain names from our church. Many have gone to The Church Triumphant, but many also remain in our congregation today!

The left column

also contains names of First UMC families who contributed.

The Harrell Center

is to the right of Stuart Auditorium. The Cokesbury Bookstore, a café, and classrooms are in this building.

The Rose Walk

begins near Harrell Center and stretches along the lake. Nearly 300 rose bushes of many varieties line the walk.

These are some of the roses

which are enjoyed by walkers.

The Terrace Hotel

has a beautiful view of the lake. Many of these pictures were taken from The Terrace.

This is the lobby

of the Terrace Hotel.

This room at The Terrace

was given in memory of a former First UMC member, Mr. O'Neill Kirkwood. It was Jim's room for Music Week!

The World Methodist Museum

faces the Lake, and houses many historical artifacts.

John Wesley's Traveling Pulpit

is in the museum.

The traveling pulpit

has this plaque.

These figures

are in the World Methodist Museum.

The Susanna Wesley Prayer Garden

is to the side and rear of the museum.

The Prayer Garden

is a beautiful, meditative place.

This view of the Lake

is seen from the Prayer Garden.

This is a replica of the parsonage

the Wesleys lived in as boys in England.

Shackford

is seen across the Lake. It is a building with classrooms and a small auditorium.

A new center for Evangelism

has been built near the Junaluska entrance. It will be used to train people to reach others for Christ. Wesley's "Offer them Christ" is seen on the sign.

The Evangelism Center

is named for Dr. Harry Denman, a noted Methodist lay evangelist.
