It was built in 1899-1900, replacing an 1871 building. The original church building in Bennettsville was built in 1834.
In 1955-56, the Sanctuary was extensively remodeled. The Sanctuary was enlarged by using some Sunday School rooms to create the current Chancel area. The seating plan was changed from an Akron plan to the current center-aisle seating arrangement.
In 2005-06, exactly 50 years later, the Sanctuary (and adjoining Christian Education Building) was again extensively renovated.
